Irrigation Uses for Topsoil in Your Landscape

Landscape maintenance is something that not only should homeowners be concerned with, but they should also be prepared for. You may have several issues with your landscape over the seasons, and your landscaping contractor relies on you to be their first line of contact. If there is an issue with the landscape, the landscapers need to know. Some of the most common landscaping issues, like irrigation, can actually be fixed with simple placement and maintenance of a topsoil supply. Here are some of those issues and how topsoil can help.

Levelling the Surface

Surfaces that have already been landscaped can actually show the first signs of irrigation and drainage issues. For example, you may have several garden beds that were placed and designed by your landscaping contractor. Over time, some parts of the surface can shift. This is due to rain or settling of the plants and shrubs within the bed. This shifting can cause the border of the garden bed to move and create an uneven surface. Topsoil supplies can be used to fill in the surface area and even the surface to reduce irrigation and drainage related issues.

Filler Near Outdoor Structures

There are several outdoor structures you may want or already have in your yard. Some of these sculptures include birdbaths, bird feeders, water foundations, ground level ponds, koi ponds and flag pole areas. You may also have a small statuary in your landscape. A common area to see irrigation and drainage is around the base of these outdoor structures. Topsoil can be used to fill in these washed out areas and to prevent further drainage issues. It can also be used to fill in spaces that are causing standing water instead of proper irrigation following rain.

Covering of Underground Plumbing

Underground plumbing is something many property owners have. This can be the main plumbing line to a water main. It can also be plumbing for outdoor water faucets, pools, spas, outdoor showers and septic tanks. When these lines are put down, they are generally covered with gravel and with soil. Over time, the pipes can settle and cause a dip in the surface area. This can cause a small ditch like area where water stands and accumulates. Topsoil supplies can help to fill in the area and reduce further erosion and related issues.

If you begin to notice issues with your landscaping and irrigation, contact your landscaping contractor as soon as possible. They can use their topsoil supply to help correct the area and maintain other surrounding areas. They can also check to see what the cause of the irrigation issue is and how it can be fixed with landscaping techniques.
