7 Ways to Remember Your Pet

Sometimes, pets can feel more like family than some human family members do. Therefore, coping with the loss of a pet can be truly devastating and hard to deal with. Memorialising pets often brings some relief as it enables you to say goodbye to your pet and, at the same time, helps you keep her memory alive forever. Read on for seven ideas on the best way to remember your pet when he's gone.

1. Have a customised headstone made

A beautiful and poignant way to remember your pet is to have a customised headstone or monument made. Most headstones come in granite, marble or stone and can be customised with your pet's name and perhaps an image or quote that truly reflects your pet's nature.

2. Donate to a pet rescue centre

A wonderful way to pass on your pet's legacy is to donate to a pet rescue centre in your pet's name. This way, not only are you memorialising your pet, but you're also helping out other animals at the same time.

3. Commission a piece of art

Whether you go for a painting or a graphite sketch, a customised portrait of your pet is a beautiful reminder of his time on Earth with you.

4. Compile a photo album

Gather all your favourite pictures of your beloved pet, and put them in a photo album. Having your pictures available at moments when you are really grieving should bring some relief; after all, your pet may be gone, but your memories will stay with you forever.

5. Get creative to honour your pet

If you really want to keep your pet close to your forever, there are ways of memorialising your pet that are a little more unconventional. These include having your pet's ashes put into a cushion, painting her portrait with her ashes mixed into the paint, making a sweater from their fur and many more.

6. Hold a memorial service

A beautiful way to say goodbye to your pet is by having a memorial service. Invite family and friends if you like so that people can share memories, but even a small, intimate service will give a sense of closure and give you a chance to say goodbye.

7. Adopt another pet

Obviously, there will be a period of mourning for your pet, but remember that when you feel ready, there are plenty of animals out there looking for someone to love and care for them as much as you loved and cared for your pet.
